On Tuesday, November 3rd UMass Memorial Health and the Ronald McDonald House New England celebrated the unveiling of the third generation of the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile for Worcester and Central Massachusetts. UMass Memorial Health describes the Care Mobile as a "mobile health clinic that delivers medical and preventive dental care for children, adults and families across Central Massachusetts."
UMass Memorial Health President & CEO Dr. Eric Dickson spoke with Spectrum News NECN on the importance of the Care Mobile, "What the Care Mobile does every day over the last 26 years, preventive dental care, vaccinations, basic physicals, basic small problems that they can take care of. But then we also use it for crisis. So during COVID-19, we were doing vaccines here. We were doing testing here with the care mobile when we had the migrant populations coming in. We were going in and working with it. We were meeting those people in the shelters and getting them the care that they needed. So it's not just what they can do on an everyday basis, but when a crisis hits, the care mobile is there and ready to step in."
Lauren Hoops-Schmieg, CEO of Ronald McDonald House New England echoed Dr. Dickson's sentiments, "Our care mobile team has been an innovator for more than 25 years since the launch of the very first Care Mobile in Worcester. Our continued service for decades is a testament to how important having a program like this in our communities is. Ronald McDonald House New England is looking forward to the next 25 years of care, compassion, and collaboration with the UMass Medical team and all our partners."
According to UMass Memorial Health the Care Mobile serves 26 Worcester public and charter schools and 11 community-based locations and in 2025 the program facilitated more than 5,000 pediatric and adult visits.
